Four members of the Hood College men's cross country team traveled to Oregon Ridge Park for the Baltimore Metro Meet hosted by Towson University Friday.
In his first collegiate race, freshman Brett Shelley was Hood's top finisher, completing the course in 17:42.36. His time was good for 34th of 64 competitors. Senior Blair Ames clocked a time of 18:37.44 for 47th, classmate Brendan Greenlees (above) followed close behind in 18:56.22 and newcomer Dave Gudeman, Jr., crossed the tape in 19:11.33. Hood journeys to Westminster, Md., Saturday for the Green Terror Long-Short Invitational hosted by McDaniel College.

The Hood College women's cross country team sent four representatives to the Baltimore Metro Meet Friday hosted by Towson University at Oregon Ridge Park.
Senior Jess Stanley was Hood's top finisher, coming in 43rd of 90 competitors with a time of 22:22.60. Sophomore Joanna LaBoue competed in her first collegiate race and clocked a time of 23:55.95, good for 63rd. Classmate Maria Moss (above) finished a little less than 14 seconds after LaBoue at 24:09.83 and junior Sam Smith posted a time of 26:20.80. Hood journeys to Westminster, Md., Saturday for the Green Terror Long-Short Invitational hosted by McDaniel College.

Hood suffered a pair of setbacks to Bridgewater College and nationally ranked Salisbury University last week. Sophomore Jacquie LeMar (above) and senior Brandy Noel combined for three shots on goal against Bridgewater, but Eagle goalie Elizabeth Sullivan was there to deny all three. This week the Blazers return to Capital Athletic Conference action hosting the York College (Pa.) Spartans Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. Hood will be seeking its first win over the Spartans in seven meetings.

Hood dropped a pair of narrow 1-0 decisions last week to Goucher College at home and LaRoche College on the road. Senior Chris Zimmerman (above) and freshman Jaime Ramirez had chances at the net against the Gophers but both attempts were thwarted by Goucher keeper Justin Holbrook. This week the Blazers travel to Valley Forge Christian College Tuesday before returning home to host Mt. Aloysius College Thursday. Hood owns a combined record of 7-0 against these two foes, and shut out both the Patriots and the Mounties last fall.

Hood got off to a solid start in its first week, picking up a pair of victories over Goucher College and Gallaudet University. Junior Cara Jordan (above) scored four goals and assisted on a fifth in the Blazers' three games. Jordan now has 57 career points in her two-plus seasons in the blue and gray, good for second all-time in program history. Additionally, her 22 goals are one shy of tying former Blazer Jamie Summers for second on the career list. Jordan is also just one assist away from tying Tamara Maggard for the all-time lead in assists (14). Several Blazers scored the first points of their Hood careers Sunday in the decisive win over the Bison. Jen Civick, Amanda Hutzell and Becky Leathers all scored their first collegiate goals and Stephanie Taylor and Civick added assists in the win. Hood travels to St. Mary's College (Md.) Wednesday for a rematch of the 2008 Capital Athletic Conference tournament semifinal.

Hood fell to Gettysburg College, 3-0 (25-11, 25-8, 25-5), Wednesday in a nonconference match.
Freshman Brittany Lethbridge put down a pair of kills in her Blazer debut while Brittany Tribett set up three Hood kills and posted four digs. Junior Chelsea Weaver (above), who is transitioning to the libero position this fall, registered a match-high nine digs to lead the defense. Hood looks to rebound Tuesday at Shenandoah University at 6 p.m.
