The Blazers finished 11th of 14 teams competing at the Lebanon Valley College Invitational Saturday. Hood’s top finisher was junior William Andrews, who placed 79th out of 173 runners, with a time of 29:46.09. Following Andrews were senior Nick Manning (30:44.97), junior Blair Ames (above) (30:56.12), senior Mattia Mabellini (32:26.14) and junior Brendan Greenlees (32:35.54). Hood is back in action Saturday at the Wilmington College Invitational in Wilmington, Del.

Senior Danielle Sgro led Hood in Saturday’s Lebanon Valley College Invitational, where the Blazers finished 10th of 14 teams. Sgro ran a time of 21:15.68 to place 23rd out of 144 runners. Also scoring for Hood were freshmen Maria Moss (24:00.89) and Sarah Morris (above) (24:14.13), sophomore Sam Smith (27:02.26) and senior Kelly Keyser (27:10.61). The Blazers' next meet is scheduled for Saturday at Wilmington College.

Sept. 8 at Penn State University-Harrisburg Invitational Noon
The men's golf team, comprised of two seniors, one junior, two sophomores and two freshmen, travels to Harrisburg, Pa., Monday for its first of four fall invitationals. Sophomore Aaron Prescott (above) was named Capital Athletic Conference rookie of the year in 2008 and returns to lead the young Blazer squad.

The Hood College field hockey team did not see action last week after both of its home contests were postponed. The game against Salisbury University, originally scheduled for Sept. 3, will now be played at Salisbury on Oct. 12 at 2 p.m. The Sept. 6 contest with Rosemont College has been rescheduled for Sept. 21 at noon at Thomas Athletic Field. Freshman Amanda Blakeslee (above) and the Blazers will play their first conference game Tuesday at York College (Pa.).

Hood dropped a tough 4-0 decision to nonconference rival Goucher College Wednesday. The game was scoreless until Goucher’s T.J. Yumoto put the Gophers on the board in the 41st minute. Junior Shawn Fernholz (above) recorded three saves for the Blazers in goal. Hood resumes action this afternoon hosting Valley Forge Christian College. Due to field maintenance, the game will be played at the Germantown SoccerPlex at 4:30 p.m.

The Blazers’ women’s soccer team began the week with 3-0 loss to York College (Pa.), but bounced back to defeat Gallaudet, 9-0, Sunday. This was Hood’s fifth straight win over the Bison and third straight shutout. Carlie Colella, Whitney Boyer and Jenna Burns had two goals apiece against the Bison, while Cara Jordan, Alexa Hubicki and Jessica Parrish each scored one. Jordan, Burns, Brittany Hurt, Liz Rakowski (above), Tish Havasy and Rachel Wolf all recorded assists. Hood's next game is slated for Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. against St. Mary’s College (Md.) at the Germantown SoccerPlex.

After falling to Frostburg State University, 3-0 (25-14, 25-9, 25-22), Wednesday, the Blazers are still looking for their first win of the 2008 season. Sophomore Kristina Straub (above) led Hood in kills (5), assists (10) and digs (5). The Blazers suit up again Tuesday when they travel to Dover, Del., to face Capital Athletic Conference opponent Wesley College.
