Senior Nick Manning (above) led Hood at Saturday’s Wilmington Invitational, clocking a 33:53 to place 56th of 111 runners. Blair Ames finished close behind Manning for 59th-place. Ames was followed by Mattia Mabellini (63rd), Brendan Greenlees (68th) and Ben Caplins (93rd). The Blazers' next meet is slated for Saturday at York College (Pa.).

Despite competing against a field of mostly Division I and II schools, senior Danielle Sgro (above) placed 10th of 90 runners with a time of 21:46 at the Wilmington Invitational Saturday. Freshman Sarah Morris followed with a time of 24:12, good for 32nd place. Hood is back in action Saturday at the York College (Pa.) Invitational.

In its first outing of the fall season, Hood’s men’s golf team placed 11th out of 11 teams at the Penn State University-Harrisburg Invitational Monday. Sophomore Evan Chaney (above) had a career-best performance, finishing with a score of 83 (+11). Andy Alger followed Chaney with an 89, while Daniel Reid and Bob Ranft scored a 101 and 110, respectively. Hood’s next match is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 18 against Stevenson University, formerly Villa Julie College, in Hampstead, Md.

Hood won its first game of the season Saturday, blanking the College of Notre Dame (Md.) 4-0 at Thomas Athletic Field. The triumph over the Gators marked the first for head coach Staci Brennan over CND in her seven-year coaching career. It was also Hood's second win in 15 all-time meetings with its former Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference foes and first since the 1999 season. Freshman Maria Smith (above) scored two goals for Hood—the first tallies of her career. Brandy Noel also notched two goals and had one assist to Smith. Jen Lacy recorded six saves for Hood (1-2, 0-1 CAC). The Blazers will travel to Cedar Crest College Saturday for a nonconference matchup.

The Blazers finished a busy week with a pair of wins and one loss, evening their overall record at 3-3. On Monday, the Blazers recorded their first shutout of the season, 4-0, against Valley Forge Christian College at the Germantown SoccerPlex. Quinn Miller, Jon Butterfield, Matthew Dybala and Jacob Ausherman scored for Hood while Miller and Christopher Mendez (above) each had an assist. The Blazers then downed Mt. Aloysius, 5-0, on the road Thursday. Mendez, Carlin Rabie, Tom Sprague, Corey DeMaster and Matt Sharp all scored their first goals of the season. Finally, Hood dropped a 2-0 decision to Waynesburg Saturday. Shawn Fernholz had five saves in goal for Hood. The Blazers return to action Wednesday, Sept. 17, at Randolph College.

After a 9-0 win over Gallaudet Sept. 7, Hood dropped a 4-0 decision to St. Mary’s College (Md.) Monday at the Germantown SoccerPlex. Rachelle Buhrman and Kirsten Cacciola (above) combined for 10 saves for the Blazers (1-4, 1-2 CAC). Hood’s next contest is slated for Tuesday at Mt. Aloysius College. The Blazers return home Saturday hosting Wesley College at 12:30 p.m.

Hood's first fall match was postponed due to rain. That match with Goucher College has been rescheduled for Friday, Oct. 3, in Towson, Md. Senior Christine Ocampos-Barry (above) and the Blazers entertain Frostburg State University Friday at the Baker Park Tennis Courts.

The Blazers are still looking for their first win of the season after opening their Capital Athletic Conference schedule Tuesday with a 3-0 (3-25, 10-25, 18-25) loss at Wesley College. Kristina Straub led the Blazers with a team-high six kills and six assists. On Saturday Hood traveled to Washington, D.C., for the Catholic University Tournament. In its first match of the tournament, Hood fell 3-1 to Catholic in four sets (14-25, 26-24, 18-25, 13-25). In the second match, Messiah College defeated the Blazers (8-25, 24-26, 15-25). Chelsea Weaver (above) and Hood return to Gambrill Gymnasium this week for a pair of matches. The Blazers host Penn State University-Harrisburg Tuesday and CAC rival St. Mary's College (Md.) Friday.
