Brendan Greenlees (above) was Hood’s top finisher at the York (Pa.) Invitational Saturday, finishing the course in a personal best 29:34 – the 22nd-fastest time in school history. Greenlees, who placed 17th, was only 24 seconds away from medaling. Nick Manning was the Blazers’ No. 2 man, clocking in at 29:39, followed by Mattia Mabellini, David McDuffie and Ola Komolafe. Hood travels to Salisbury University Saturday to compete in the Don Cathcart Invitational.

Senior Danielle Sgro had another strong performance for the Blazers, finishing sixth of 61 runners at Saturday’s York College (Pa.) Invitational. Sgro’s 21:02 effort marks the 17th time she has earned individual honors for Hood. Maria Moss was the second Blazer to complete the race, clocking a 22:36. Sarah Morris (above) finished alongside Moss in 22:37. Additionally Moss, Morris, Jessica Stanley, Sam Smith and Kelly Keyser all set personal bests.

Stevenson University beat Hood on the greens by 12 strokes (346-358) Thursday at the Piney Branch Country Club. Andy Alger was the top finisher for the Blazers with a 78—one shot away from medaling. Ryan Junghans followed with an 83, and Evan Chaney and Daniel Reid carded a 92 and 105, respectively.

Samantha Liptrap (above) scored her first career goal in Hood’s 2-1 loss at Cedar Crest on Saturday in a game that came down to penalty strokes. With the score tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, the Blazers and the Falcons played two scoreless 15-minute sudden-victory periods before the game went into a stroke-off. Hood missed all four of its shots, while Cedar Crest hit two, giving the Falcons the win. Jen Lacy had six saves for the Blazers in the cage.

On Wednesday, Randolph College outshot Hood 15-4 and scored in the final two seconds of the first half to give the Wildcats a 1-0 victory. Shawn Fernholz had eight saves for the Blazers. Despite leading 2-0 at the half against Lancaster Bible College Saturday, Hood gave up four goals in the second period and went on to lose 4-2. Chris Zimmerman and Connor Prachar (above) scored for the Blazers, while Corey DeMaster and Max Gebhart tallied assists. Hood opens Capital Athletic Conference play Wednesday at the University of Mary Washington.

Women's Soccer (3-4, 2-2 CAC)

Five different Blazers scored in Hood’s 5-0 win at Mt. Aloysius College Tuesday. Cara Jordan, Carlie Colella, Katherine Rendon, Nicole Antalffy, and Whitney Boyer all found the back of the net. Colella also had three assists against the Mounties which tied a school record. The Blazers’ momentum continued through Saturday, when freshman Jessica Devine (above) scored the golden goal in a double-overtime against Wesley College ­– Hood’s first-ever victory over the Wolverines. Katherine Rendon assisted Devine’s game-winner, which came with 27 seconds remaining in the second overtime period. Rachelle Buhrman recorded her third shutout of the season in goal, making nine saves for the Blazers.

Hood opened its fall slate Monday hosting Shenandoah University at the Baker Park Tennis Courts. The Hornets won all six singles matches and swept the doubles matches to earn a 9-0 victory. Garrett Loomer (above) and the Blazers travel to local rival McDaniel College Friday.

Sept. 26 at McDaniel College 4 p.m.

Hood won its fall opener over Frostburg State University, 5-4, Friday at the Baker Park Tennis Courts. Jillian Elkaim, Christine Ocampos-Barry, Larisa Buriak (above) and Emily Schrodel all won singles matches for the Blazers, while the No. 1 doubles team of Elkaim and Buriak rallied to upend Sarah Eisel and Vicky Stafford, 9-7. The Blazers eked out another narrow victory Monday with a 5-4 win over Shenandoah. Danielle Hunt defeated Candice Sullivan at sixth singles, 6-2, 6-3, to clinch the triumph for Hood. The Blazers’ next match is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 26, at McDaniel.

Hood was unable to deliver a win this week, falling to Penn State-Harrisburg 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-17) and St. Mary’s (Md.), 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-7). Ashley Burns led Hood with eight kills against PSU-Harrisburg and Kristina Straub finished with 15 assists. Straub tallied six more assists for the Blazers Friday against the Seahawks, while Chelsea Weaver and Jamie Gardner (above) each had four kills. Hood has four matches slated for this week, including a pair at Gambrill Gymnasium Saturday.
