How do I find a job on campus?
If you received federal work-study or campus employment as part of your financial aid award, you are eligible to be hired on campus for student employment. There are many offices that provide opportunities for students to enhance their skills while making a little extra cash. Check out the job opportunities posted on the Hood website here.
How do I find a job in the Frederick community?
Students who qualify for federal work-study have a unique opportunity to consider a service-oriented job in the Frederick community. Opportunities are available with big Brothers/Big Sisters, the Historical Society, the Red Cross, the Department of Social Services, United Way, Frederick Memorial Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, and many other organizations. If you are interested in a community service job, please contact Yvette Webster of the Office of Service Learning, 301-696-3751.
When do I apply or interview for a job?
During Fall Orientation there will be a job fair held for student employment. Students will have the opportunity to talk with representatives from various departments on campus that have open positions. Many of them will have applications to fill out at their tables and may even interview you on the spot! If you are interested in a community service job, representatives from various volunteer organizations in the Frederick community will be available during the Fall Service Fair. Students will have the opportunity to talk with these organizations concerning job opportunities in the Frederick area.
How much should I work?
The main thing to remember is that a part-time job should be just part-time. Balancing academics and campus involvement is an individualized process and may take a couple of weeks to figure out. Students involved in the student employment program work an average of 8-9 hours per week.
How do I get paid?
Students are paid by check around the tenth of each month for work performed during the previous month. Students submit a timesheet to the Financial Aid Office at the end of each month. Checks are issued by the Accounting Office and distributed in students’ campus mailboxes unless arrangements have been made for direct deposit. Direct deposit forms are available from the Accounting Office.
Does the money earned automatically come off of my bill?
No. These funds will not be considered a credit against the student account unless the student applies his/her check to the accounting office to pay toward the bill.
