Program of study: Management of Information Technology
Graduation year: May 2012
Why did you choose to pursue a graduate degree?
I decided to pursue a graduate degree because just like in the United States, the hiring process in Saudi Arabia is highly competitive and graduate degrees are becoming increasingly necessary in order to find a good job. Aside from that, working within the field of technology requires me to have an in-depth knowledge of the latest technology.
Why did you choose Hood College Graduate School?
I chose Hood College specifically because of the courses offered in the program. The courses, a perfect balance between technology and management, will help me to secure a management position in the field of technology.
What do you value most about your relationships with your professors?
I really value the mutual respect that exists between my professors, the other students and me. The professors are there not only to teach, but also to serve as mentors both academically and professionally. The professors in the program do not stop helping the students just because the class is over. They are always available outside of class. I know that if I have a problem with anything, I can turn to my professors for assistance and guidance.
What was your most rewarding class or academic experience at Hood? Why?
While all of the classes in the program have been rewarding, there are two classes in particular that stood out from the rest. Professor Salem's CSIT 555 Information Systems Security class and Professor Dimitoglou's IT 548 Telecommunication and Networking class were both highly challenging, but offered insight and experience that is fundamental to a successful career in information technology and management of information technology.
How do you manage your many other obligations such as work and family with the demands of graduate school?
It is a juggling act. I try to be organized and prepared as I can be. I am from Saudi Arabia, so my family was not here with me. This proved to be very difficult for me, but my family was very supportive of me and my goals, making all the stress worth it.
Can you offer any tips to prospective students?
I would tell other students that it is important to understand their motivation for choosing to enter the program. It is a lot of hard work, and it is easy to get discouraged if you have not set goals for yourself. Also, I would say that all the hard work and stress is worth it in the end, so just stay focused on your goals.
When you aren't in class, what is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?
When not in class I enjoy reading articles about new and innovative technology and its integration. I also enjoy writing articles applying what I've learned in class. Recently several articles of mine were published and I think that Hood College's high standard of academics has pushed me to continuously try to achieve more than I thought was possible.
