happy holidays

Program of study: Computer and Information Science

Graduation year: 2009

Why did you choose to pursue a graduate degree?

The primary reason was to improve my career skills. I develop software for a consulting company and it's important to keep up with technology. I didn't want to just get a certification in one software language or management field, I wanted to improve all aspects of my career. A graduate degree provided the opportunity to explore both the technical and nontechnical aspects of the computer technology field.

Why did you choose Hood College Graduate School?

Hood College offered a combined computer science and information technology program, the first, and only one I've seen. I wanted to improve my technical skills but realized that my career also required knowledge of information technology principles. Hood College is conveniently located and I've been impressed with the campus ever since I moved to Frederick County in the early '90s..

How did your degree help you further your professional or personal life?

The computer science courses allowed me to both improve my current skills and explore new technologies. The information technology courses reinforced my understanding of the nonscience aspects of a career in computer technology.

Who is your favorite faculty member and why?

I enjoyed working with all the faculty members. My adviser, Professor Dimitoglou, was one of my favorites, both as an adviser and a professor. He helped me select courses to achieve my goals and it was always a pleasure to attend his classes.

What would you share with prospective students about your graduate experience at Hood?

Enjoy it! I did. Hood College offers great courses with outstanding professors. The campus is one of the best in the area and it's well located in Frederick, easy to get to from any of the large metropolitan areas.
