The Hood College Writers’ Conference will offer workshops in creative nonfiction, poetry and fiction for rising 8th and 9th graders and current high school students who are serious about their writing and want to improve their skills. Participants will work closely with Hood faculty and other award-winning published writers to achieve this goal and to develop new sources for inspiration. 1-2 p.m. Lunch
2-4 p.m. Lectures, Guest Writers, Group Writing Activities
4-5 p.m. Writing, socializing
5-6 p.m. Community readings with guest writers on selected days
6 p.m. Dinners with guest writers on selected days
The fee for the two-week conference, which includes daily lunches, one dinner with participants' favorite conference author and the closing reception, is $1,000. Applicants should submit all materials by May 15, 2011.
Registration and Requirements
Enrollment is limited and competitive. To reserve your place, send the registration form, writing sample—five to 10 poems or a three- to five-page work of fiction or creative nonfiction—letter of recommendation from your high school English teacher and a $250 deposit, which will be credited toward your conference fees and is only refundable to students not admitted to the conference. The balance of your fees is due two weeks after receiving notification of your acceptance. Mail all materials to:
