LEAP: Leadership for Emergency Academic Preparedness

LEAP is designed to support educators of all levels of experience become more effective teachers and leaders. Benefits for all participants include

  • mini-grants for professional development or instructional design projects

Teachers selected for the LEAP program will commit to:

  • Attend monthly workshops, seminars, and PLC meetings (held virtually on Saturdays, fall 2020, spring 2021, fall 2021)
  • Consider joining the optional 1-week Summer 2021 workshop series
  • Prepare for workshops and meeting by completing readings and/or writing assignments
  • Actively participate in PLCs
  • Maintain a reflection log
  • Develop and present a mini-workshop for PLC
  • Disseminate and apply learning to the broader profession

Benefits of the participation in the LEAP program include:

  • Opportunities for support and collaboration
  • Leadership opportunities
  • A $500 stipend per semester (Fall 2020, Spring 2021, Fall 2021)
  • Optional participation and stipend for Summer 2021
  • Mini-grants to develop and apply curriculum or professional development initiatives*
  • Travel grants to present at local and regional conferences*
  • * (participants must apply for mini-grants and travel grants)

 

The LEAP program has extended its reach by forming a second cohort for beginning teachers (0-2 years of teaching experience). These teachers will receive professional development on topics such as clasroom organization and management, self-care, student engagement, and supporting diverse learners.

Teachers selected for this LEAP cohort will commit to:

  • Attend 1/2 day virtual monthly workshops (Fall 2021 dates: September 18, October 2, November 6, December 4)
  • Prepare for workshops and meeting by completing readings and/or writing assignments
  • Actively participate in small group discussions
  • Maintain a reflection log

Benefits of the participation in the LEAP program include:

  • Opportunities for support and collaboration
  • A $500 stipend
  • Mini-grants to develop and apply curriculum or purchase classroom materials (participants must apply for mini-grants)

Applying to the LEAP Program

Fall 2021 applicants must be certified, practicing Maryland teachers with 0-2 years of experience. Furthermore, they should be fully committed to the objectives and expectations of the LEAP programs.  See the Fall 2021 LEAP Cohort tab for details.

The 2021 cohort is limited to 30 teachers. No late applications will be accepted. A lottery system will be used to select participants.
