I specialize in 20th century utopian and African American political thought. My publications focus on utopian thought in popular culture, black science fiction, voting, and the intersection of race, education and civil rights in the 1950s. I have served as an election judge in Maryland since 2002 and observe elections in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. I have founded and lead two programs at Hood College: the African American Studies and the Nonprofit and Civic Engagement Studies minors.
