
Hodson Trust Scholarships for Children of Former Beneficial Employees
Children of former Beneficial employees with two or more years of full-time service with the Beneficial Corporation and its subsidiaries immediately prior to June 30, 1998 are potential candidates for these full-tuition scholarships for undergraduate and graduate study at Hood College. All scholarship recipients must be enrolled on a full-time basis.
Undergraduate Students
To qualify for an undergraduate scholarship, students must satisfy all of the following conditions:
- Submit a letter requesting scholarship consideration prior to or concurrent with the submission of their application for admission. The letter must include a notarized statement from his/her/their parent indicating the parent’s relationship to the applicant, the parent’s social security number, and the parent’s employment history with Beneficial prior to June 30, 1998.
- Achieve a minimum academic cumulative grade point average of 3.5/4.0 (through junior year) in high school.
- Apply for admission no later than March 1 prior to the start of the academic year.
- Meet all the admission requirements for Hood College.
Transfer students may be considered for these undergraduate scholarships by satisfying conditions 1, 3 and 4 above, as well as achieve a cumulative grade point average in post-secondary course work of 3.2-4.0 or better.
The scholarships will be renewed annually provided that the recipient maintains continuous full-time enrollment status and a cumulative Hood College grade point average of 3.2 or better. Scholarships are limited to no more than eight semesters. No fees, study abroad, study away or summer sessions are covered by the Hodson Trust Scholarship.
Graduate Students
To qualify for a graduate scholarship at Hood College, students must satisfy all the following conditions:
- Submit a letter requesting scholarship consideration prior to or concurrent with the submission of their application for admission. The letter must include a notarized statement from his/her/their parent indicating the parent’s relationship to the applicant, the parent’s social security number, as well as the parent’s employment history with Beneficial prior to June 30, 1998.
- Have achieved a minimum undergraduate grade point average of 3.5-4.0 or better.
- Apply for admission no later than one month before the commencement of classes in fall or spring.
- Meet all the admission requirements for the graduate program to which they apply.
The scholarship will be renewed annually before the start of the fall semester provided that the recipient maintains continuous enrollment status as a full-time student (9 credits per semester), and a cumulative Hood College grade point average of 3.5-4.0 or better. Continuous enrollment is defined as being enrolled in both fall and spring semesters in a given academic year.
Scholarships are limited to no more than six semesters. Students who wish to enroll in summer courses may consider the Summer I and Summer ll sessions as a single semester, enrolling in three summer courses (9 credit hours) that count toward the scholarship’s maximum six-semester limit.
The scholarship is only available to students pursuing a master’s degree and does not apply to certificate programs. Students may earn a certificate provided that the certificate is earned concurrently with their master’s degree. Students in the doctoral program will not be considered for the scholarship. No fees are covered by the Hodson Trust Scholarship. The scholarship does not cover graduate practicum and internship courses.
