    Hood College has a number of resources located on and off campus to help our community stay healthy and well. Contact Hood's Director of Wellness with any questions, wellness@hood.edu. 

    Hood College Health & Counseling Services: 301-698-8374 - Option 1

    • The Hood College Health Center is located across from the Volpe Athletic Center at 501 W7th St Frederick, MD. 
    • As of March 2020 counseling services are provided via telehealth. Counseling services are available while classes are in session; Aug - Dec and Jan - May. 
    • Call to make an appointment, but appointments are not necessary.  

    Dean of the Chapel: 301-696-3569

    • The Chapel is open daily for personal prayer and meditation. 
    • Other supports include:
      • spiritual counsel

      • stress relief and meditation
        • Mindful Mondays for Faculty/Staff are Monday afternoons 12:15 – 12:45 (email omalley@hood.edu for the Zoom link)

    • Counseling services are provided at no charge to Hood community members and are confidential. 
    • Call to make an appointment or virtual drop in sessions are from 1-2 on Mondays and Tuesdays each week. Call the Center or visit in-person to be connected with a counselor during these drop in times.

    Hood College does not offer health insurance plans to students at this time. Domestic and international students can obtain health insurance through the health care exchanges established pursuant to the Affordable Care Act.

    All full-time international students must have adequate medical insurance coverage, either through an overseas student insurance plan or other international student insurance plan. 

    Below is a list of health insurance companies for international students. Hood College does not endorse any of the programs listed and students will need to purchase with their discretion. Our purpose is to provide you various health insurance program options which are available to you.

    Nutrition Education and Consultation:

    image004.jpegHi! I’m Thu Huynh, Registered Dietitian and in-store nutritionist with Giant Food. At Giant, we offer many services to help you improve your health and achieve your nutritional goals. And especially with the new year here, what better time to take advantage of these free services?

    Nutrition services include: 

    o   One-on-One Consultations

    o   A one hour session is $25, refunded at the end of the session with a $25 gift card to Giant.

    o   Held in nutritionist’s office at the Urbana Giant or Traville Giant in Rockville. By appointment only.

    On-Campus Nutrition Seminars

    o   As scheduled by the Director of Wellness, Amanda Rzepkowski or by group request.

    Group Store Tours

    o   Whether it be diabetes, heart health, or a plant-based diet, learn how to grocery shop with health and wellness on the mind.
