Hood President Andrea Chapdelaine Announces Decision to Step Down at End of Academic Year

Hood College President Andrea E. Chapdelaine today announced her decision to step down from her role at Hood College, effective June 30, 2024.

“This decision was one of the most difficult of my professional career,” Chapdelaine said. “My commitment to and love of Hood has and always will be strong. I will deeply miss Hood and the Frederick community. [My husband] Dave [Tetreault] and I made this decision based primarily on a need to be closer to our families.”

During her nine-year tenure as Hood’s president, the College advanced on many fronts. Highlights include:

  • Completion of the strategic plan Moving Together Beyond Boundaries, which saw the launch of new academic programs, significant expansion of strategic partnerships and an investment in employee compensation.
  • Growth in undergraduate and graduate enrollment and improvement in student retention
  • Investment of nearly $100M investment in campus, including the renovation of the Beneficial-Hodson Library and Learning Commons and Memorial Hall, and the building of Blazer Hall
  • Successful conclusion of the comprehensive campaign, Forging the Future, which raised nearly $75M in support of scholarships, experiential learning and the Hood Fund.
  • Receipt of the largest gift in College history: $54M from The Hodson Trust

“The Board of Trustees is grateful for President Chapdelaine’s many contributions and wish her the very best as she and Dave prioritize being nearer to family,” Board Chair Tonya Thomas Finton ’78 said. “Andrea’s nine years of dedicated service have expanded and strengthened Hood’s national rankings and brand and created transformational growth in the endowment.”

Finton continued, “In the coming weeks, I will share more information about the next steps in this important leadership transition.”

Chapdelaine, a native of Massachusetts, will relocate to New London, Conn. to become the 12th president of Connecticut College.
