A Letter from Hood College President Andrea E. Chapdelaine, Ph.D.

Dear Hood College community,

It is with mixed emotions that I write to inform you that I have submitted my resignation as Hood College’s 11th president to the Board of Trustees, effective at the end of my current contract, June 30, 2024.

Although the Board of Trustees had extended my contract for an additional five years, my husband Dave and I have made the difficult decision that this is the right time for personal reasons.

The timing is right for Hood as well, given the successful conclusion of Forging the Future campaign, and as we embark on the early stages of the next strategic plan. I also know I leave Hood in very capable hands – the amazing senior team, faculty and staff who support you each and every day.

Please know that this decision was one of the most difficult of my professional career. My commitment to and love of Hood has and always will be strong. There are so many memories of joyous celebration, challenges overcome, and, most cherished, time in relationship with all of you.

I am very proud of the work we have accomplished together over the past nine years. I am edified by my conviction that Hood is poised for a bright future, because of all of you – a deeply committed, hard-working and caring community that I have been privileged to work with. I could not leave Hood in better hands (and hearts and minds).

Above all, you are the reason I have loved being Hood’s president. For any good I have done during my time here, thank you for making me a better president and person.
