Hood College Conference Services & Special Events

The Graduate School at Hood College presented the 2019 Excellence in Service Award to Jim Haines, Conference Services Coordinator.

Mr. Haines began working at Hood College with the facilities crew in 1985. In 1988, he was the designated chauffeur for the president and other VIPs. He became the conference services coordinator in 2005, and since then, his responsibilities have ranged from turf and field maintenance to overseeing the set-up and orchestration of large projects here in the Volpe Center.  Now, Mr. Haines coordinates room reservations and event set-ups on campus, for faculty, staff, and students, as well as outside constituents.

In his 33-year tenure on campus, Mr. Haines has been on campus in every ice and snow storm—often sleeping overnight at Hood to make certain the College has a route open in case of emergencies. He is the first one on campus during an emergency and the last to leave.  He operates every piece of equipment on campus, and has a deep institutional memory on which members of the Graduate School and every other office on campus rely so heavily.

When Mr. Haines is not at Hood College, he is spending time with his family, including his first grandson Jensen, born in 2019. He enjoys saltwater fishing and cutting & splitting firewood.

Congratulations to Jim Haines for his Excellence in Service Award! We are honored to have him as a long-standing trusted and loyal Hood staff member!
