Benefit Concert for Puerto Rico

FREDERICK, Maryland—Hood College is hosting a benefit concert to aid Puerto Rico on Jan. 21 at 3 p.m. in Brodbeck Music Hall. The event is organized by Nancy Roldán, DMA, and RoseAnn Markow Lester.

The “Puerto Rico: After the Hurricane” concert will raise funds to benefit Puerto Rico following the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria. All performers and organizers are donating their time and talent for this event. The performers will include:

  • Gustavo Ahualli, baritone, faculty member at the Catholic University of America;
  • José Miguel Cueto, violin, faculty member at St. Mary’s College of Maryland and concertmaster for Concert Artists of Baltimore;
  • David Lester, double bass, Hood College alumnus;
  • Edward Polochick, piano, faculty member at the Peabody Conservatory at The Johns Hopkins University and artistic director of Concert Artists of Baltimore;
  • José Ramos Santana, piano, faculty member at the Catholic University of America;
  • Jennifer Rende, viola, faculty member at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, principal violist for Concert Artists of Baltimore; and
  • Roldán, piano, retired faculty member at the Peabody Conservatory at The Johns Hopkins University and founder of the Liszt-Garrison Festival and International Competition.

The event is free, and donations will be collected at the concert. It is requested that contributions be made to the following organizations currently helping Hurricane Maria’s devastated areas, as per each contributor’s personal preference: Project Hope, projecthope.com; and World Animal Protection, worldanimalprotection.us.org. Please make donations by check at the concert, as credit cards cannot be processed.
