The Graduate School at Hood College presented the 2019 Virginia Wheeler Jones Outstanding Reading Specialization Student Award to Cristen Reid, current graduate student in Hood College's Reading Specialization program. This award is funded by Virginia Jones.

Cristen is in her 6th year as a teacher at Twin Ridge Elementary in Mount Airy in the Frederick County Public School District.  Cristen has taught both Kindergarten and 2nd grade and currently serves as the leader of the second grade team. During Cristen’s time at Hood college, her research examined processes librarians use to promote content and disciplinary literacy in order to motivate secondary students to read. She also conducted an in-depth evaluation of the literacy program at her home school with great effect.

Congratulations Cristen - We wish her all the best in her future endeavors!
