Graduate Faculty Focus | Daniel Sierra-Sosa

Daniel Sierra-Sosa is an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology at Hood College.

He has been involved in multiple activities related to industry research and other partner academics. Dr. Sierra-Sosa engages in industrial initiatives with Kindred-Healthcare, which works on research projects in the development of mobile applications, virtual reality, medical images and predictive analysis.

He is the co-author and lead author of several manuscripts that have been published in recognized journals. Prof. Sierra-Sosa is also a Qiskit Advocate and instructor at IBM Skills Academy in Quantum Computing, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.

What made you decide to teach at Hood College?

I really liked the environment and the people in the Department (of computer science)Hood College and its programs are growing at a fast pace and it is exciting to be part of it.

Can you tell us a little bit about the IBM Partnership, and what benefits it will bring Hood College and its students?

This partnership allows us to integrate the IBM Skills Academy to some of the Hood classes.  

It also adds tutorials, educational resources, and access to IBM services to the existing class materials. The IBM services offers skill development in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data analytics, and more.

We are working on many things to come! The Department of Computer Science recently organized an event on Quantum Computing with more than 500 attendees from Latin America.
