After a brief hiatus, RECESS! is back at Hood College. Organized by the department of education, this annual event brings together students, faculty and staff for some outdoor fun and games. Education majors are deeply involved in their student teaching placements at our partnering public schools throughout Frederick County. RECESS! allows students to share their experiences in the classroom and beyond.

“We have education majors from different phases here, and then prospective majors. We’re really just trying to get out and meet different people, have a chance for education majors across different classes to meet each other, and to just have fun, relax and be able to enjoy each other,” says Dr. Kristine Calo, assistant professor of education.

Students who are interested in pursuing a career in education are encouraged to attend the event. Faculty and current majors are happy to answer questions and provide information about the different education programs offered at Hood College. Currently, there are majors in early childhood education, elementary/special education and secondary education, as well as a variety of certificate and graduate programs.

This year’s RECESS! featured a special visit from the Georgetown Hill at Hood College Lab School students, who came decked out in their festive Halloween costumes. Early childhood education majors work closely with the Lab School students and staff on campus, engaging in hands-on teaching and student observations as an experiential component of the program.
