Biography

Throughout my 25+ years in education, I have always been passionate about making a difference in the field. I bring my passion about teaching and learning into my Hood classroom and strive to help my students develop strong content knowledge and a desire to make a positive difference in the lives of the children they will teach.

My varied professional experiences give me a unique perspective on education that I believe benefits my Hood students. I was a classroom teacher in two states, a district administrator in K-8 Curriculum & Professional Development, a school administrator in a Title I K-5 school, and a supervisor of the District's K-3 literacy specialists.

I have also seen education from the educational publishing lens. I was a member of the team at National Geographic that created high-quality informational texts to help teachers tap into the innate curiosity of preschoolers though middle schoolers. And, I was one of the original creators of Curiosityville, an engaging, online, personalized learning world for young children and their families.

At Johns Hopkins, I was an assistant professor and the coordinator of early childhood professional development for the states of Maryland and Ohio through the federal Race to the Top Early Learning Challenge Grant, which focused on strengthening early childhood teaching, learning and assessment. These varied experiences have shaped who I am as an educator. I am honored to be making a difference at Hood and in the Frederick community.
