Can you provide a quick bio? Any general background that you would like to share, as well as your educational and career background.

I received my bachelor’s degree in early childhood and elementary education from Clarion University of Pennsylvania.  I started my career with Frederick County Public Schools in 1997 and have been a dedicated K-5 classroom teacher, reading interventionist, and literacy specialist for 21 years. I then graduated from Hood College in 2003 with a master’s in curriculum and instruction.  I am currently smiling within the walls of North Frederick Elementary school where I primarily support intermediate students and teachers.

Why did you choose Hood College Graduate School?

Hood College was a favorable choice from the beginning due to both convenience and connections.  It was beneficial to continue my education while working in the classroom in order to immediately implement coursework while also making professional connections with Hood College staff and students.  Because of this, I still communicate and collaborate with several of my Hood classmates today.

How has your Hood College graduate degree helped further your career and/or your life?

Hood College gave me opportunities to expand my horizon by welcoming challenge and change - especially by working with students of all age levels.  I grasp opportunities to learn and explore literacy throughout the K-12 reading and writing continuum.

What did you enjoy about Hood College? Do you have a favorite memory?

My fondest memories at Hood College are aligned with authentic learning experiences - including opportunities to examine individual strengths and needs based on valued assessment, data and personal connections with students.  I highly valued discussion and feedback from Hood professionals and cherish the time and insight of all mentors - past and present.

Is there any other information or fun facts you would like to add?

Best wishes to all Hood graduates - you made a great educational choice!
