Eight Trustees Appointed to Hood College Board

FREDERICK, Maryland—The Hood College Board of Trustees welcomed eight new members during its October meeting. Susan J. Gearey ’79; Theresa R. Harrison; Thomas A. Kleinhanzl; Matthew C. McGreevy; Philip S. Renaud II, M.S.’83; Thomas H. Truitt, MBA’02; Aldan T. Weinberg ’75; and Kathleen Weslock ’77 joined the Hood College family.

GeareyGearey earned her bachelor’s degree at Hood College. She began working at Tiffany and Co. as a floor manager in 1988, advanced to store general manager in 1992 and was named the regional vice president of the Northwest and Pacific regions in 1997, the position she kept until she retired in 2009. Gearey has been an active volunteer in her community in San Francisco since 1994. She has been chair of the Saint Francis Memorial Hospital Foundation Board of Directors, chair for the opening night gala for the San Francisco Ballet Auxiliary and president of the Metropolitan Club.

Harrison earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration at Frostburg State University. She is a graduate of the charter class of the renowned Johns Hopkins University’s Carey Business School Leadership Development Program and has completed numerous technical, leadership and executive management programs. Harrison is an entrepreneur, speaker, mentor to women, soon-to-be author and committed community servant. She is the founder/president of George Street Services, Inc., a technology, cybersecurity and workflow automation and management services company headquartered in Maryland.

KleinhanzlKleinhanzl earned his bachelor’s degree in microbiology and his master’s degree in health administration from The Ohio State University. He has more than 29 years of hospital administration experience and is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. He became president and CEO of Frederick Regional Health System in December 2004. Kleinhanzl has been an engaged and active community leader. He has held voluntary board leadership positions with the American Heart Association, the United Way, the Frederick County YMCA, Hospice of Frederick County, and Saint John’s Catholic High School.

McGreeveyMcGreevy holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College). He is a financial adviser and vice president at Morgan Stanley and started his career in the securities industry in 1997. He has served on Hood’s Board of Associates since 2014 and serves as an adjunct instructor in The George B. Delaplaine Jr. School of Business. McGreevy is also active in the community. He has held various positions in the Carroll Creek Rotary Club, the Frederick County YMCA, the Community Foundation of Frederick County, Monocacy Valley Goodwill and the City of Frederick Parks Commission.

RenaudRenaud earned a master’s degree in administration from Hood, and he has more than 25 years of experience creating and managing several large multilocation, international risk management departments. He brings extensive expertise in risk management, direct insurance, and safety and health. He is a managing director at The Risk Institute at The Ohio State University, and he has managed risk programs at Deutsche Post, Kmart, Limited Brands Inc. and SCOA Industries Inc. Renaud is a regular speaker at national, regional and local risk management forums.

Truitt earned an MBA from Hood and graduated from the Stonier School of Banking and the Gestalt International Study Center. He has 25 years of progressive leadership responsibility, and is now CEO of MidAtlantic Farm Credit, a Frederick loan agency that offers agricultural financing for agribusiness, home, land and farm loans in Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania and Virginia. Truitt’s accomplishments include successfully completing a merger transition and managing the technology function for a $2 billion financial institution with operations in four states.

WeinbergWeinberg was the first male to enroll in classes at Hood College, and he earned a bachelor’s degree in English in 1975. He also earned a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri School of Journalism. He is a professor emeritus of journalism at Hood, where he joined the full-time faculty in 1985 and received tenure in 1991. While at Hood, he held a plethora of leadership positions, including program director of communication arts, chair of the English department and founding adviser of Blazer Radio. Weinberg took leave from 1997-99 to become publisher of the Gazette Newspapers, which included three weekly publications with a combined 65,000 circulation in Frederick. He also won several journalism awards from his time at the Frederick News-Post, the Carroll County Times and the Hagerstown Herald-Mail.

WeslockWeslock earned a bachelor’s degree at Hood, a master’s from Cornell University and a Juris Doctorate from Pace University School of Law. She is an experienced global human resources executive with a career background that has involved extensive collaboration with executive leadership as a trusted adviser in achieving current and future business goals. Currently executive vice president of Frontier Communications, she was responsible for all people matters as the company doubled in size, growing from a $5 to $10 billion corporation. Weslock is extremely active in a multitude of professional boards and organizations, is heavily recruited to serve as keynote speaker on the advancement of career development and has been awarded some of the top recognitions in the industry.
