FREDERICK, Md., — Hood College Department of Nursing faculty member Sheila Pierre-Louis, DNP, was recognized for her excellence in nursing instruction by the Maryland Higher Education Commission's (MHEC) Academic Nurse Educator Certification (ANEC) program.

The award recognizes faculty who demonstrate excellence as an academic nurse educator through achieving and maintaining the National League for Nursing’s Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) credential in Maryland nursing programs. Supported by the Nurse Support Program II, Pierre-Louis was awarded $5,000 towards renewal of her CNE in addition to her recognition as one of the top nursing educators in the state.

Awards such as this assist Maryland nursing programs in recruiting and retaining nursing faculty to produce the additional nursing graduates needed by Maryland's hospitals and health systems. The ANEC award is intended to reinforce the use of the CNE as a measurement of excellence in nursing programs and retain outstanding academic educators.
