Biography

Dr. Erik Messinger is a licensed clinical mental health counselor (LCMHC) in North Carolina, a nationally certified counselor (NCC), and an approved clinical supervisor (ACS). Specializing in dual diagnosis, he has extensive experience in counseling adults and adolescents in outpatient community and substance use treatment settings. Dr. Messinger currently sees both adults and adolescents within community mental health focusing on both mental health and substance use concerns.

Dr. Messinger’s research is primarily focused on meeting the mental health needs of first responders which stems from his own work as a volunteer EMT and firefighter. He also completes research within supervision and teaching of counselors in training along with an interest in substance use counseling. Focused on service to the counseling profession, he is active is state, regional, and national professional organizations. He is a member of the American Counseling Association, the Association of Counselor Education and Supervision, and the Association for Creativity in Counseling. He currently serves as Membership Chair for the Association of the Specialist in Group Work as well as a member of the special initiatives committee. He also is involved with the Maryland Association for Counselor Education and Supervision as the membership chair. Dr. Messinger also serves with Chi Sigma Iota as the chair of the Professional Members Committee and is a chapter faculty advisor for the Eta Chi chapter at Hood College.
