Some schools call it “general education.” At Hood, we call it our “core curriculum.” Through Hood’s core, you’ll be exposed to different disciplines and encouraged to expand your perspectives. Developing your identity as a Hood student requires your heart, mind and hands.

Core Curriculum

The Heart, Mind, and Hands Core Curriculum (HMH) is required of all students and provides students with foundational skills needed to pursue a liberal arts education, complements their major requirements, sparks intellectual curiosity, and promotes critical reflection about how their education connects to their life after college.

Heart, Mind and Hands

HEART

The transition from high school to college can be challenging, and we want to set all students up for success. Through the “heart” of our core curriculum, you’ll develop intellectual and social growth. No matter where your college journey takes you, it all begins here.

MIND

Engaging with the core curriculum isn’t about checking boxes. Whether you’re majoring in accounting, art and archaeology, Arabic or art therapy, you’ll develop beneficial skill sets and habits of mind and make connections across disciplines.

HANDS

You will engage in hands-on experiences, using your classroom learning to prepare for your life after Hood.
