Core Curriculum: HANDS
As a junior or senior, you'll participate in at least one high-impact learning experience and focus on preparing for life after Hood. These experiences will deepen your learning and give you opportunities to apply your skills and prepare to graduate.
HANDS:
HIP: One 3-credit hands-on experience, also known as a high impact practice. Many students will complete this requirement through their major in a capstone course, senior seminar, semester-long study abroad or required internship.
Alternative Experiences: Students who wish to propose an alternative experience, that does not carry an established course code, must apply for pre-approval in order to satisfy the Hands requirement. These proposals will be reviewed by the student's major department and the Core Oversight Board (COB). Click here to learn more and to submit your Alternative HIP Pre-Approval Request.
LIFE: To help you prepare for life after Hood, you'll also complete a capstone course OR a specific "Life After Hood" course. Through either path, you'll learn practical skills like how to apply for your first job post-college, how to select the right graduate school, and how to manage the transition from college life to the next step on your journey. You'll also complete an e-Portfolio, synthesizing your educational experience at Hood.
