Appalachian Wind Quintet

FREDERICK, Maryland—The first of five concerts of the 2018 Noel K. Lester Summer Chamber Music Festival kicks off June 21 at 7:30 p.m. in Hood College’s Brodbeck Music Hall.

Now in its 34th year, the festival was renamed after its late founder and long-time director Noel K. Lester. The first concert will feature the Appalachian Wind Quintet, made up of flutist Barbara Spicher, oboist Ed Stanley, clarinetist Rick Mogensen, bassoonist Scott Cassada and horn player Stephen Pastena. They will perform works by Jurriaan Andriessen, Jan Pieters Sweelinck, Giuseppe Maria Cambini, William Grant Still and Paul Hindemith.

The Appalachian Wind Quintet has distinguished itself as one of the Mid-Atlantic region’s finest woodwind chamber ensembles. With broad experience as soloists, symphonic and small ensemble musicians for many years, the members of this group join to form their finely unique musical cohesion.

The concert is free and open to the public. Brodbeck Music Hall is air-conditioned and handicapped accessible. For more information, contact Wayne L. Wold at 301-696-3782 or woldw@hood.edu.
