Soda-Fired Ceramics Exhibit

FREDERICK, Maryland—An exhibition of soda-fired ceramic pieces will be on display May 11-27 in Hood College’s Whitaker Campus Center Gallery.

The exhibit, “Amalgamation Between Two Art Thoughts,” showcases the works of Jafar Alhamar from Rumaithiya, Kuwait. Alhamar uses soda-firing techniques to achieve surfaces that complement his unique forms. The amalgamation focuses on the combination of Islamic and American pottery techniques.

Alhamar earned a bachelor’s degree in art education from the College of Basic Education in Kuwait and is earning his master’s degree in ceramic arts from Hood.

A reception will be held May 12 from 3 to 5 p.m. with a gallery talk at 4:15 p.m. The Whitaker Gallery is open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.
