Facilities

The Center's and the Department of Computer Science and IT's academic, research, and outreach activities are supported by a modern information technology infrastructure.

Cybersecurity Laboratory

The Cybersecurity Lab is a custom-designed, teaching, training, and research environment. It is the "flagship" laboratory for all cybersecurity activities. It supports several courses, student and faculty research projects and it is the home of Cyber Blazers, the student competitive ethical hacking team. Located at the Hodson Center of Science and Technology (Rm. 143) hosts 19 computers (18 student computers and one instructor station). The lab provides a rich computing environment with an easily configurable networking infrastructure to allow isolation and supports various attack and defense scenarios. Highly capable workstations allow users to run a multitude of virtualized operating systems (e.g. Kali Linux, Windows) and modern cybersecurity and networking tools. It is a key resource in providing a hands-on learning experience in an environment that resembles the infrastructures used in the cybersecurity workforce.  Overall, the cybersecurity laboratory provides an isolated environment where students and faculty are able to experiment safely in areas that could ordinarily be considered too dangerous to institutional network and system resources.

Networking and Forensics Lab

The Network Security Lab, Located at the Hodson Center of Science and Technology (Rm. 305 ) hosts 10 workstations, split into two separate network groups to emulate a separated offensive and defensive (Red-Blue Team) topology. Using modern hardware configurations, these multi-bootable systems can run various operating systems and participate in exercises related to network security. The lab's workstations are also used to support digital forensics investigations using the Forensics Toolkit (FTK). This lab space is planned for an enhancement renovation (in 2020), to host a mini Security Operations Center (SOC) to support an academic-industrial partnership with a local technology company.

General Purpose Computer Labs

Several multi-purpose, shared computing labs are available at the Hodson Science and Technology Center that is available for use by students and faculty in cybersecurity.  All labs are equipped with an AV station (computer, document camera, laptop connection) and a ceiling-mounted projector.

  • Multipurpose teaching labs (Rm. 113 and 237). Each with 25 computers (24 student computers and one instructor station) running Microsoft Windows.
  • Multipurpose teaching lab (Rm. 308G) with 21 computers (20 student computers and one instructor station) running Microsoft Windows.
