“I am excited to begin my work as Hood’s chief information officer and join the Hood community,” said Corns. “With 32 years of experience in technology and education, I look forward to collaborating with faculty, staff and leadership to build greater efficiencies, strengthen processes and bring modern, 21st-century tools to the core of the College’s administrative operations.”

As CIO, Corns will lead the Department of Information Technology and serve as the institution’s information security officer. In this role, he will provide strategic leadership for Hood’s information technology operations, including planning, developing, implementing, managing and assessing academic technology services, software, infrastructure and data security.

Corns joins Hood following more than seven years as executive director of information technology for Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS). During his tenure, Corns built efficiencies in IT processes to save the county $26 million annually. Prior to his position with BCPS, Corns served as chief operations officer of technology at Washington County Public Schools and as director of technology for St. Mary’s County Public Schools.

“Jim’s background leading complex technology initiatives in Maryland’s public education systems, combined with his collaborative approach and commitment to improving the user experience, makes him an excellent addition to the Hood community,” said Debbie Ricker, Ph.D., president of Hood College. “I look forward to the leadership he will provide as we continue to strengthen our technology infrastructure to position Hood for the future.”
