Scholarships on this page provide financial support and opportunities for personal and professional growth. Applying for a diverse range of scholarships increases your chances of securing funding. Many scholarships are highly competitive, do not be discouraged. Each application is a chance to showcase your unique talents and achievements, discover new fields, and connect with experts in various industries. For support with your applications, reach out to Hood professionals who are ready to help. These include your academic advisor, faculty within your major, and the staff of the Career Center.

The following opportunities are available to undergraduate and graduate students seeking a degree and career in education:

NOYCE (NSTEP), Undergraduate Scholarship Criteria: Secondary teachers of biology, chemistry or mathematics; final two years of undergraduate degree (STEM major and teacher certification).

TEACH Grant, Undergraduate Grant Criteria: Teaching obligation of at least 4 years, high-needs field, and more.

PRAXIS Fee Waivers, Undergraduate Wavier Criteria: Currently receiving financial aid, undergraduate only, up to three Core tests or one subject area assessment.

Teacher Loan Forgiveness, Undergraduate, Graduate and Alumni Criteria: Eligible after 5 years of teaching.

Maryland State Tax Credits/Quality Teacher Incentive Credits, Graduates, Alumni, or Recent Alumni Criteria: Classroom teachers enrolled in college courses are eligible for $1500 tuition tax credit on their Maryland Income Tax return. Must earn a B or better and be employed by a local school system.

Sharon Christa McAuliffe Scholarship, Undergraduate Scholarship Description: Approved teacher program; critical shortage areasup to $4k per year.

Teacher Academy of Maryland (TAM), Undergraduate Scholarship Description: Given to students by Hood College who have successfully completed all requirements of the TAM during high school.

The following opportunities are available to undergraduate and graduate students seeking a degree and career in political science or global studies:

Public Leadership Education Network, undergraduate scholarship opportunity. The Public Leadership Education Network (PLEN) is the only national organization with the sole focus of preparing college women and marginalized gender groups for leadership in the public policy arena. PLEN offers intensive workshops that connect students with national level leaders in the Washington, DC region. 

The following opportunities are available to undergraduate and graduate students seeking a degree and career in psychology and counseling:

APA Summer Undergraduate Psychology Experience in Research (SUPER) Fellowships, Undergraduate Fellowship Criteria: Psychology majors or minors.

NBCC Minority Fellowship Program for Mental Health Counselors (Master's), Graduate Fellowship Criteria: Counseling master's students. Other requirements follow.

MindCore Summer Research Fellowships, Undergraduate Fellowship Criteria: Psychology majors or minors.

Psi Chi SuperLab Research Grants, Undergraduate & Graduate Grant Criteria: Members of Psi Chi.

Unrestricted Travel Grants, Undergraduate, Graduate and Alumni Grant Criteria: Members of Psi Chi.

Scott and Paul Pearsall Grant, Undergraduates & Alumni Grant Criteria: Psychology majors or minors.

Student Grant Competition, Undergraduate Grant Criteria: Students engaged in psychological research.

APS Grants, Awards, and Symposia, Undergraduate Grant Criteria: Psychology majors or minors engaged in research with a faculty member going to APS.

Variety of awards/opportunities for different purposes, Undergraduates, Graduates and Alumni Scholarship Opportunities: Members of Psi Chi.

The following opportunities are available to undergraduate students currently enrolled in the honors program:

Presentations at MCHC in February, Expenses paid by Honors Program.

Presentations at NCHC in November, Expenses paid by Honors Program.

Portz Prize for Outstanding Honors Student in Maryland, Undergraduate Scholarship Description, Awarded Annually at MCHC.

National Parks Summer Program for Honors Students, Undergraduate Summer Program, Some travel expenses paid for by the Honors Program.

Portz Fellowship, Undergraduate Fellowship Criteria: Students in good academic standing at institutions within the NCHC.

Portz Scholars, Undergraduate Scholarship Criteria: Students must be enrolled in the institutions Honors Program for at least one semester.

Community Engagement Award, Undergraduate Scholarship Criteria: Student must be enrolled in the honors program and a current service project.

Davy Scholarship, Undergraduate Scholarship Criteria: Students that are nominated by their honors program for the award.

Hanigan Scholarship, Undergraduate Scholarship Description: Scholarship provides financial support to help students attend honors conferences.

NCHC Student of the Year, Undergraduate Scholarship Criteria: Students that have made a significant impact in their honors program.

Summer Research Institute Grants, Undergraduate Research Opportunity Description: The Summer Research Institute is a program sponsored by Hood College Board of Associates. All majors are welcome to apply! More information can be found: Here!
