Position Title: Graduate Assistant for Student Life
Department: Student Life  
 
Position Summary:  

The Graduate Assistant (GA) for Student Life will support both Student Engagement and Residence Life in fostering a dynamic, inclusive, and supportive campus environment. The GA will focus on student development, programming, facilities maintenance, and student conduct cases. This position requires a commitment to student success, community building, and personal growth. 
 
Key Responsibilities:  

Student Development 

  • Provide guidance and support to residents, promoting their academic, personal and social development.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with residents to discuss their progress and address any concerns.
  • Develop and implement initiatives aimed at enhancing student retention and success.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model, encouraging a positive and respectful living environment.

Programming 

  • Plan, coordinate, and evaluate a variety of educational, cultural, social, and recreational programs for residents. 
  • Collaborate with Student Engagement to create events that foster community and engagement on campus. 
  • Assist in the development and execution of large-scale campus events and traditions. 
  • Promote student involvement in campus activities and organizations. 
  • Facilities Maintenance 
  • Conduct regular inspections of residence halls to ensure safety, cleanliness, and proper maintenance. 
  • Report and follow up on maintenance issues in a timely manner. 
  • Work with facilities management to ensure that residence hall spaces are well-maintained and meet student needs. 
  • Assist in the coordination of room changes and housing assignments. 


Student Conduct 

  • Hear student conduct cases and adjudicate based on the institution’s policies and procedures. 
  • Maintain accurate records of conduct cases and outcomes. 
  • Provide educational sanctions that promote student learning and accountability. 
  • Assist in the development and implementation of conduct policies and procedures. 
     

Administrative 

  • Participate in regular staff meetings and training sessions. 
  • Assist with administrative tasks as needed, including housing assignments, budget management, and report generation. 
  • Maintain regular office hours to be available for student consultation and support. 
  • Serve on departmental and university committees as assigned. 
     

Qualifications: 

  • Enrollment in a graduate program at Hood College 
  • Previous experience in residence life, student affairs, or a related field preferred. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.


Compensation: 

  • One bedroom apartment in one of our residence halls.
  • $6,000/year stipend.
